Augustine Okafor (20th January 42 BFC – present) is a politician and the inventor of the first Plasmorph containment device. His parents are Marcus Okafor, Zsófia Ardour, and Cecile Riddle.

Augustine was a child prodigy who developed an entirely new branch of superconduction theory while studying for degrees in physics and chemistry at age 17. He founded startup Helitae to commercialise small scale plasma containment, Helitae developed the first prototypes of a Plasmorph device but was unable to raise enough funding for the power systems and was later bought out by the X Group. In 22 BFC Augustine met void ecologist David Regis, and soon afterwards they tried to have a child together via artificial womb, but the pregnancy was unsuccessful.

When he was 22, during a routine prostate cancer surgery, a Dominio robo-daktari malfunction left Augustine unable to have more children, and he subsequently developed a drug addiction. During this time he developed an interest in Q-picking and was reportedly active on several ancilla qubit forums, and it is speculated he was successfully extracting a significant income from his hacking for several years. Although the eldest child of Marcus Okafor, his step mother Anna Reyes convinced Marcus that Augustine was unsuitable as a successor due to his drug addiction, and his step-sister Polaris Okafor-Reyes was groomed for leadership and was eventually elected as the Freehab CEO in 3 BFC after Anna retired.

At age 25 Augustine left the Ellulist church and converted to Deus Machina, a religion violently opposed to the Ellusists worldview and which held centralisation under synth control as a core tenet. He also ended the relationship with David Regis and the next year married Ilona, an instance companion and prominent Martian entertainer and Retrograde Diaspora centralisation advocate. Augustine likely spent then next five years working in black market activities such as drug smuggling, but when he discovered that several of his lucky escapes had been organised by Greater Zhōngguó as a means to increase drug use and thus weaken Freehab he quit and underwent psychosurgery to cure his drug addiction.

Through Ilona he developed connections on Mars, and eventually took over the leadership of the political wing of the Freeholders. In response to Freehab developing a trading relationship with the Fatimid Trade Caliphate, and well as his Deus Machina faith which was more palatable to the more centralisation focussed Sunni Muslims, he was able to obtain diplomatic recognition for the Freeholders from the Caliphate's rival Türkiye. On the 2nd May, 14 AFC, Anna Reyes was killed by Turkish genetic malware, and since then there has been a much closer diplomatic relationship between the Freeholders and Freehab, with the two jointly participating in the Nanocat Fury protests.
